Are there standard sizes for flags?

For advertising flags in portrait format, the sizes 150 x 400 cm and 120 x 300 cm have stood the test of time. You will also receive all national and federal state flags standardly in these sizes.

Other standard sizes in portrait format are 80 x 200 cm, 150 x 500 cm and 150 x 600 cm. Standard sizes for horizontal hoist flags (crossways format) are 120 x 80 cm, 150 x 100 cm, 200 x 120 cm, 250 x 150 cm, 335 x 200 cm.

Of course, we can produce any other format that you would like to have.

How expensive is a flag with my own motif?

The price depends on the following factors:

• flag size
• number of colors
• quantity needed
• material desired
• type of flag (portrait format flag, decorative banner…)

In general the rule is that the higher the quantity, the lower the price per piece. That is because the set-up costs for creating the stencil and the machine set-up occur regardless of the number of pieces to be produced and are distributed across the whole number of pieces. For flags created by screen printing we recommend a minimum run of 10 pieces in order to achieve a lower price per piece.

How long does a flag last?

Flags belong to the textiles that endure the most physical stress of all. Flags are moved by the wind thousands of times every day. So a general pronouncement about the durability of flags can not be made, since too many factors influence the respective stress on a flag. 

However, by treating a flag properly and caring for it, one can increase its life span considerably. In general, flags should be taken down in strong wind and in storms. One should also make sure that flags are allowed to wave freely and that they don't touch anything when they do. If damage becomes visible, the flag should be taken down immediately and repaired. Otherwise, any tears will become bigger and bigger. (We offer repair services for your flag at cost.)

Which flag size is right for my flagpole?

There are no hard and fast rules that will tell you what flag size belongs to which flagpole length. That is really a matter of taste. 

Why are flags in small runs more expensive than those in large runs?

In general the rule is that the higher the quantity, the lower the price per piece. For flags created by screen printing we recommend a minimum run of 10 pieces in order to achieve a lower price per piece. With digital printing, however, individual pieces and small runs can be produced economically.

What kinds of printing processes are available?

Flags can be manufactured by screen printing (chemical steam press printing) as well as by digital printing. Color brilliance and color fidelity of flags produced through screen printing are still unsurpassed. For medium and larger runs, screen printing is also considerably cheaper.

If you ask us, we will recommend the printing process that is optimal for your purposes.

Digital printing is more economical for small runs and individual pieces. A higher screen resolution is also achieved in digital printing. (Resolutions of up to 1440 dpi are possible with this method.)

Can you wash flags?

You can wash flags in any household washing machine at 60°C. You will achieve better results, however, if you have our restoration laundering service handle the flags. We guarantee you that the colors will be just as brilliant as they were on the first day - assuming that they have not been cleaned with other cleansing agents beforehand and that the soiling is due to air pollution. 

Do flagpoles need a base?

Yes, flagpoles must in every case have a base! As a rule, a ground casing is cemented in, and the flagpole is simply inserted into it afterwards. The pole can then at any time be removed again from the ground casing. Recommended base sizes for normal ground stress and soil quality B 25 for all ground brackets:

7 + 8 m — 90 x 90 x 80 cm
9 + 10m — 100 x 100 x 90 cm
11 + 12 m — 110 x 110 x 90 cm

A layer of gravel will provide for good drainage of the ground casing.

When should you take a flag down?

Basically, flags should be taken down in very strong wind or storms in order to avoid damaging the fabric. In addition, flags should be taken down immediately should you notice visible tears in the fabric. You can have us repair your flags at cost. So that your flags will always create a representative impression, we recommend that you launder them regularly. You will achieve the best results if you have them laundered by us in our restorative laundry. We guarantee you that the colors will shine just as brightly as they did on the first day.
